LOLITA

[2019]

Designing a paperback version of Vladimir Nabokov’s novel, Lolita, from textual content treatment to elaborating its cover. Throughout times, Lolita inspired an endless number of graphic images, and all of them mostly refer to the same concept: feminine ornaments, lips and lipsticks, underwear, heart shaped sunglasses, references to female anatomy through fruits such as strawberries and cherries, and an abundance of pink.
With the development of this stereotype, even those who have never read the book, generally know (or think they know) what Lolita means. Setting aside the popular image created and making us all curious to unravel the story, the cover reveals the fragility, lost youth and imprisonment of the character.

I loved you. I was a pentapod monster,
but I loved you. I was despicable and brutal,
and turpid, and everything, mais je t’aimais, je t’aimais!
And there were times when I knew how you felt,
and it was hell to know it, my little one. Lolita girl, brave Dolly Schiller.
