GRAL-/HAS

[2021]

This project emerged from the peculiarity of the Portuguese language. The editorial’s theme confronts misspellings, so—called "Gralhas" in Portuguese language. “Gralhas”, rooks, are also birds, combining the irony of the Portuguese language itself, with a bird that has no rationality whatsoever. Here, some of the monotonies of the language are highlighted, by mentioning the most recognized Portuguese authors while their rooks have been unmasked. Portuguese writers such as Eça de Queirós, Fernando Pessoa, Luís Vaz de Camões, Camilo Castelo Branco and José Saramago take over each page, trying to contrast with the content itself, while completing it. The reader is demystifying the Portuguese language, its evolution from those who have made it a landmark in literature, to those who constantly “attack” it.
